Bestival in Toronto? YAAAS! British music festival, Bestival, took place in Canada for the first time ever in the lovely Toronto! Hosted on the legendary Toronto islands, even the commute to the festival was damn interesting. The independent festival is known for its huge variation in music genres, whereby different stages were set-up for electronic music, indie rock, pop, and some good old hip-hop. It was a great line-up that included Cashmere Cat, Jamie xx, Nas, SBTRKT, Flume, Caribou, and the mind blowing Florence & The Machine. The highlight of the festival for me was without doubt, the majestic Bollywood temple. Mamma mia! The colors and those dancing monkeys definitely put a smile on my face as I stood there grooving to the sexy beats of DJ Tennis, Paco Osuna, Nathan Barato, Nicole Moudaber, and Justin Martin baby (and obviously many many more)…
We did have a few problems at the festival with the commute to and from the island being extremely hectic. Hundreds if not thousands of people squished in a line waiting for the damn water taxis and ferries was definitely an unpleasant situation. However, the amazing vibe in the festival made up for these little bumps. People left and right dressed in the craziest outfits, drinking whatever, eating from the food trucks, and dancing their asses off. It was even fun just walking around and checking out the different things you can do, like getting fake married in the balloon church, duh!
One of my favourite experiences at the festival is definitely the beach stage. I heard some reggae blasting so I decided to follow the music and see where it would lead me. Little did I know it was the funnest place of all! Dancing barefoot on the sand, overlooking a nudist beach and grooving to that feel-good rhythm, I knew that I have finally landed in heaven.
Good times Toronto, a refaire! 🙂
