‘You Stink’: Final Warning
I know I have bombarded you with shared posts about the garbage crisis in Lebanon. But how can I not be doing that when it comes to saving my country and making sure my friends and family are living in a healthy environment? I can’t and won’t stop until I know I have done everything in my power to make that possible knowing that it is the least thing I can do as a Lebanese citizen.
Let’s throw it back to the beginning of July 2015. Yes! Let’s go back this much in time, back when it all started. I had just arrived to Lebanon from Montreal and was cruising in the car, when I started noticing piles and piles of garbage compiling. I remember asking my dad what was going on and he answered by, ‘You know, same old problems. They will be gone before you even know it’. Well, that is what he thought, that is what I thought, that is what we all thought and are still thinking until I found myself again in Lebanon, on Christmas, living in worse conditions. They were still burning garbage day and night, and I could not get over how foggy and humid the sky was the whole 2 weeks I spent there. I even remember passing by Karantina on my way to a restaurant and losing my appetite within seconds after seeing the huge river of layered garbage and smelling the odor it caused. I even remember going to C U nxt Sat to party with friends and almost stepping on a rat that was already run over by a car.
I was disgusted but everyone around me seemed okay and did not react. As if they got used to it and there was nothing they could do.
But there definitely is…
This is the last wake up call
Join the ‘You Stink Movement’ this Saturday March 12th, 2016 and march with us from Sassine Square to Riad El-Soleh starting 4pm. Enough is enough! It is your duty and responsibility to take part in this protest and exert pressure on the Government. If you live abroad, your contribution is as important. By sharing news or even the page of the movement, you will be helping us reach and inform more Lebanese people about the protests and hopefully get even more media attention.
You can even participate in protests happening abroad. For instance, in solidarity with our friends and families in Lebanon, a silent protest will be taking place in front of the Lebanese Consulate in Montreal this Saturday at 11:00 am.
