Nadine Labaki Top Movies
If you were to ask me about a Lebanese person I look up to, it would definitely be Nadine Labaki. This woman has worked her way up through standing out in a male-dominated society by working hard towards international recognition. Living in an Arab country is not easy. People underestimate women and don’t take them seriously. She proved everyone wrong through her work ethic, dedication and passion and ended up directing as well as acting in many movies.
Who is she?
Nadine Labaki is a Lebanese director and actress that has lived and endured the harshness of the Lebanese civil war and turned disturbing memories into life-learning movies. Her movies are mostly about the Lebanese society, inequality, corruption, taboos, oppressions and the things we tend to hide. I love it because it’s empowering but most of all it reflects the harshness and the oppression we live in. Most of all, because she’s a feminist that believed in her vision and executed it.
Nadine touches and inspires not only myself, but many Lebanese women and Arab women in general. As one of my friends has said about her, “she just makes me feel so happy”. Nadine understands how to illustrate every type of Arab woman, and knows exactly where to pinpoint our struggle, which only highlights our strength.
Congrats Nadine on representing Lebanon worldwide and having ‘Capernaum’ nominated for the Oscars and getting a standing ovation!
